Perplexing lag problem

I started having some strange lag problems ingame a few months ago. Lately, I have been trying to figure this out, and it appears that the Virindi bundle is behind the problems.

I log in to the game normally or with AC multiclient, get to the character select screen, and enter the game just fine. After one to two minutes, I completely freeze up (running in place), usually accompanied by the message from VI that I have been disconnected, will try again in 15 seconds. I remain frozen for another one to two minutes (always a green link) before VI reconnects and the game unfreezes. This sequence occasionally happens again, but with no predictable time between occurrences. Now and then the game client will crash before it unfreezes, but not often. When it does unfreeze, I show massive packet loss and a ping time in 6 digits.

I have the same problem after I change characters It makes no difference if I am running one client or two, and it happens on both clients if two are active, but not always at the same time.

I have my ports set to what I believe are proper values.

As part of my troubleshooting, I have uninstalled and reinstalled all AC programs. I have not been able to duplicate the problem with any combination of other plugins. Once I reinstall Virindi bundle, the problem starts again. I followed all install and uninstall instructions online, including the registry cleaners.

I could use some help.

can you figure out which specific virindi plugin is causing the problem by disabling one at a time? When you reinstalled the virindi bundle, did you delete or rename the virindi plugins folder?

I did delete the plugins folder, and I have had no luck yet with the disabling of one thing at a time. I did disable everything except vtank, and it didn't make a difference.

the next time this lag issue happens try to connect to the internet using a web browser just that we can confirm you are having a AC problem and not a internet problem in general.

this...

or, run a ping test in the background while playing AC

open command prompt, and type:

Code: Select all

ping google.com /t
That will create a unending ping test, just alt tab back to it when you disconnect.

You have given me another avenue to explore further. I had already started down the internet connection path when you wrote this. My first discovery was that my tcp/ip stack was heavily modified - I must have done that a couple years ago while fighting with a different ISP. It is back to normal now, but the problems continue. The continuous ping is inconclusive - it seems to keep humming merrily along while no other data is being moved - in AC or a web browser. I am awaiting a reply from my ISP on this issue, and will post again when I have more to report.

Thanks for your help so far!

Update - still no joy. The possible problem with my ISP doesn't seem to affect the game. When I run AC without Virindi enabled, I don't crash at all - at least not yet. Decal itself seems to make no difference, and other plugins make no difference either. I get some lag logging in with the new LT2015, but the game runs fine. It's only when I enable part or all of the virindi bundle that I get the problem - VI disconnects (although it occasionally will reconnect), data throughput drops to zero, and the game crashes. If I start the ping while this is taking place, it fails - can't find google.com. If the ping is already running, it doesn't seem to have a problem - just keeps on pinging. What I can't be sure about yet is if my connection is borking virindi, or is virindi borking my connection?

And for another puzzle, I ran AC with virindi enabled for about 4 hours last night and had no issues at all???? I haven't yet seen anything that leads me to believe the time of day or night enters in to this yet, but that was a stunner.

Tag as I feel like I run into this same issue occasionally too...especially on a couple of Gauntlet runs recently :P
I've thought it is my comp, but it has been sporadic and it's not that I'm always laggy or get to the complete disconnect...so I'm semi-stumped and I pretty much don't think there are other programs running (unless it is some Security thing), nor my ISP...sooooo.
I'm not sure if there is a connection to running Metas or some Mag-Tool tracking, but those have been my thoughts. I can even be fine is some places, but then Hoshino, 2-2, and Gauntlet can cause the disconnects. I haven't done too much more troubleshooting recently as my connection has been fine, although I haven't been to those places nor done many Metas recently either.

An update: After fine tuning my internet cables, the problem has mostly gone away. Unfortunately, it reappears almost every time I run Virindi bundle with Virindi integrator enabled; Shortly after entering the world, I get a message that VI has disconnected, will retry in 15 seconds. VI will usually reconnect on the first try, but the game client crashes shortly after. Without VI enabled, everything has been working fine. I can pretty much live without VI, although I do like the dungeon maps. I'm still looking for any help or ideas I can get on this.

Not sure why vi2 would be causing you disconnects unless you are on an extremely low quality internet signal.
You definitely want to get it working, not just for maps but for the cross server support chat.
